fall break: up and down the coast of Maine

Day 4 was a whopper!  Well all of them were actually because as I mentioned before we shoved as much as possible into this week long adventure!

We spent the day driving up and then back down the coast of Maine and stopping in a variety of places.  Before I even mention where we visited there let me say this, Maine is hands down the most beautiful state I have ever been in.  It is GORGEOUS!  We will definitely be returning for an extended stay at some point to see Acadia National Park and other parts of the coast again.

We left in the morning and drove to Mackworth Island State Park and spent an hour or so hiking along the beach and the trails in the woods.  The hikes were easy and picturesque weather you were on the shore or in the woods.

After Mackworth Island we drove to the Portland HeadLight which is the most photographed lighthouse in the country.

Next it was on to lunch at the prettiest lunch spot, The Lobster Shack.  Picnic tables outside gave you a view of the Atlantic crashing in onto the rocks below.  We stayed here for over two hours eating and then sitting on the rocks watching the water.

After a quick drive thru of Kennebunkport, Maine and a couple stops at some fun Antique Stores along the way, we made it to Nubble Lighthouse to see the beginning of sunset and finished it at Long Sands Beach in York where the sand was super smooth and the water was super cold!
