niner

It's been two weeks since my biggest baby turned 9.  A year from now his age will contain two digits and I will feel significantly older than I do today.  Micah got pretty lucky this year.  His birthday was during Winter Break so he was able to to have the day off to celebrate.

The day started with a message on our chalkboard, a new home brings new birthday traditions.  The birthday boy chose Krispy Kreme doughnuts for breakfast and ate them under the balloons Logan and I picked out for him.  Before Zach had to leave for work he opened his gifts which consisted of three video games; Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, and Madden.  Sigh, such grown up stuff for my guy.

We spent the day playing video games and working on a school project and getting to see the smile that comes on a face when they know they are loved and are made to feel special.

There's so much I love about my oldest son.  He makes friends easily and makes others feel at ease around him.  His range of interests is eclectic.  I love that he would choose to draw and read just as often as he would choose to head outside to skateboard, play basketball, baseball or football.  He still loves to watch Curious George but will also glue himself to Sports Center.  His dedication to the things he loves is great and he works hard at what he loves.  He cheers on teammates from the sidelines and cuddles our kittens on a daily basis.  He's learning to respond in excitement to every odd thing Logan shows him and enjoys having Connor be his playmate the majority of the time.

Though I never officially knew before Micah made his way into this world that he was a boy, in my heart I knew I'd start my motherhood with a son and the first one I was given just made me more excited about the two that eventually followed.

snow flurries

Our middle Georgian selves enjoyed some snow flurries a few weeks ago.  It wasn't quite cold enough for any of it to stick, but we saw flakes falling almost all day.  Then in the afternoon while waiting for Micah's piano lesson the snow kept coming and coming and because this only happens maybe once every year or two I let Logan and Connor out of the car to run around in it.  They had no big coats on but none of us cared for that few minutes as we got to experience the soft sound of snow falling.  This memory will be a long lasting one!

mariokart

Micah worked really hard, with a little help from me, to make this MarioKart inspired Valentine box for his classes party and competition.  He was one of the finalist which I guess means he tied for first because finalists is as high as anyone else got.  We seriously had a fun time putting this together!

college football hall of fame

A couple days before Micah's official birthday we took him, a couple of of his friends, plus his two brothers to the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta for his birthday "party."  I've been wanting to take them since it opened and for our sports loving boy this was the perfect way to celebrate turning nine.

Thankfully Zach was able to take a day off during our winter break so that we were able to go on a weekday instead of the weekend.  There was a large middle school group on a fieldtrip but we strategically planned our path through to avoid them completely.

We had a blast all morning!  It is such a fun place to visit with lots of information and activities.  Between the seven us we registered to follow Auburn (of course), UGA and Oregon.  All the screens pick up your sensors and automatically start changing to the teams you are interested in when they are showing information and pictures then you can manually look through to find different teams and people.

We honestly loved everything about the Hall of Fame and HIGHLY recommend it for anyone who loves college football and even for those who don't.

The boys top three things were

3.  Listening to and getting to make famous calls from different games.  Micah and Connor chose the Chris Davis touchdown run from the Auburn/Alabama game in 2013.  CJ did the Lindsay Scott run from a UGA game.  Zach did the Cal/Stanford play when the band was on the field.

2.  Getting to be announcers on Game Day.  This was definitely the funnies part of the day for me watching all the boys get up there in different pairs.  I even went on with Logan which was quite interesting.

1.  The favorite by far was the practice field where they were able to kick field goals, make a diving catch and acting as quarterback throwing balls through a net.  We saved it for last and by the time we got down there everyone was gone and they had free reign for over half an hour.  They kept going and going and going.

We ended our time in Atlanta with lunch at The Varsity and then headed back home for presents and a little touch football before the friends had to go home.

Great day.  Great friends.  Great memories.
