Even though we are in the middle of full on baseball season, I didn't want to forget to share pictures from this year's basketball season. This is the third year Micah and Connor have played basketball with Upward and it was just as great an experience as every other year. They love learning more about the game, fine tuning their skills, and getting a chance to show them off every week. I love watching them in their element and seeing their dedication through practicing on their own at home. Team sports teach you skills you'd be hard pressed to learn anywhere else and let us form relationships with new friends which is always fun too

around the world
It's basketball season and during a gorgeous day this past week we played a game of Around the World. With different countries in an arc around the goal we took our turns. Micah kept being risky and now freezing and having to start back at the US. Connor camped out in China for a good long while. Logan was automatically frozen every time he made one but he still had a couple lengthy visits. Australia screwed me up three rounds in a row so my lead was lost when Micah finally hit his stride. I lost. I can feel my place on the totem pole starting to lower without the chance of being back at the top in this lifetime, at least as far as sports go.

basketball
Basketball season has ended. We remembered to bring our real camera the last game so that we could get some action shots for the boys. The ones from Connor's game were awesome because Zach took them all. The ones from Micah's game were taken by me whilst Logan was crawling all over my lap trying to play with my hair, take a picture or see the picture so they are not of the same caliber. Hopefully he forgives me for it!
They both had excellent seasons. Connor's league doesn't keep score but according to him they won every game except one. I think he might have conveniently missed a few of the other team's baskets more than once. Micah's team ended up first in their league. They had two great coaches, Zach being one of them, and some really good players who worked together really well. He had three friends on his team, one of them was his best friend Gavin, so between playing with your buddies and winning most of your games it was an 8 year old boy's dream!
They are already talking about next season :)

ballin' with buds
We've been doing small parties for a couple of years now. We love both of our families but they are huge and we learned the hard way that it can get quite overwhelming for me and our sensitive boys to have family and friends thrown together in a big shindig.
Usually we let the boys pick a couple friends to go do something fun. This year all Micah wanted was to play basketball with friends. We searched around to borrow a gym so that it could just be us there and Zach found a place in Covington. Conyers Street is owned by the Rec Dept and you can rent it by the hour. I've driven by it hundreds of times on the way to and from school and was hoping by the look of the outside that the inside would be a cool old gym with lots of vintage appeal. I was not disappointed. It looked like a set right out of Hoosiers!
This space is not meant for parties or even for nice activities but it had a heated gym full of space for ballin' so it was perfect! Zach was in charge of the party. They started with some fun warm ups and then played a few different basketball inspired games. There were team shot contests, Granny shooting contests, free throw contests, a game of 4 on 4 which included all the adults and just some fun free time shooting around. The guests had a blast and that's all we were looking for!
