eating playdoh

A few weeks ago Logan and I attempted making homemade playdoh.  I grabbed a recipe off pinterest that would allow me to use ingredients I already had because the wet, frigid (for Georgia) weather wasn't friendly for store visiting.  We followed the directions and ended up with a lump of doughy disgustingness that smelled funny and was a disaster to play with.

I promised Logan that day that they next time we tried to make playdoh it would be the kind you can eat.  That way if it was worthless for actual playdohing at least we would have a yummy snack.  I sought pinterest again, it really is the greatest source for projects of all kinds, and found this pin that had links for 15 different recipes.  We started with the vanilla and the chocolate.  They were both really easy to make and were delicious.  I personally thought the vanilla was WAY too sweet which makes sense because the two ingredients are whipped icing and powdered sugar.  The chocolate, however, tasted just like brownie batter and would probably make a delicious truffle!

All three boys loved playing with it as well.  They were both malleable and didn't get too sticky with warm little boys hands touching it.  Logan spent a lot more time eating than playing but that is to be expected.  Also to be expected was the HUGE mess they made on and under the table but I will always sacrifice a mess for an hour plus of fun and concentration.

fall snack

Yesterday's weather was gross.  Rainy but not the pretty relaxing rain.  It was the slightly humid muddy rain.  For the first time in a LONG time I thought about and planned ahead an afterschool project to do with the boys.  We had a lovely crafternoon and snack making session.

A few years ago my friend Kiley introduced me to a fall snack she always makes for her coworkers and friends.  It's Oh's cereal mixed with any or all of the following,
reece's pieces
fall colored plain m&ms
fall colored peanut m&ms
candy corn m&ms
candy corn
candy pumpkins
peanuts

I have made it the past two years for the boys' teachers and friends as well as plenty of leftovers for us and it's a favorite for sure!

To decorate the jars, and take up lots of time on the rainy day, I cut out leaves from watercolor paper with my silhouette and we painted leaves fall colors.  Or at least Micah, Connor and I did.  Logan painted his leaves black and then painted himself and then painted me.  BUT he didn't eat the paint so we're moving in the right direction!

After the painting we taste tested all the ingredients, mixed it all together and got the jars ready to share.  They turned out super cute, and yummy!

cheez-its

A few weeks ago I saw something on facebook about free cheez-its. Free is awesome and cheez-its are awesome so I checked it out. They (and by they I mean nabisco) was giving out free samples of three different new flavors. We got ours in the mail today and had a May family taste test.

The three flavors are Asiago, Romano and Colby. Micah, Zach and I tried them all at different times so that we wouldn't influence each other's decision and then made our choices. The results were....

Micah and Zach- Romano

Sarah- Colby

Connor- food :)
