Zion National Park: Day 1

Day 1 started with an early breakfast at the Wagon Wheel Diner before driving the extra 30 minutes to Zion.  On the way there Zach thought it would be funny to play the song Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker.  It stopped being funny by the end of the trip when that became Connor's new favorite song and he asked for it every five minutes!

The views driving up to the park were gorgeous.  When Zach and I had gone the previous year it was rainy and overcast the whole time.  This year it was beautifully blue and sunny!  All three boys were captivated by the scenery and kept imagining what it would be like to live there all the time and just walk out the door and stare at the mountains.

Our first hike was up the Kayenta Trail to the Emerald Pools.  It's one of my favorites because there are gorgeous views of the canyon and river without it being a super dangerous, mama heart stressing out, trail.

At the end of the hike at the Upper Emerald Pool you are treated with a waterfall from the mountain and fun places to wade and jump across.  Logan might have ended up getting really wet.  I probably should have anticipated that.

After playing, snacking, and listening to a extremely loud woman talk to all of her kids as if she was the only one within miles, we headed back down the trail the same was we came but stopped to let the boys scamper up a few of the large boulders to the side.

After lunch at the Lodge we took an easy hike following the river and stopped a lot for the boys to throw rocks, skip rocks, pocket rocks, and climb trees.

We knew we weren't going to get a ton of hikes in during the trip because we wanted to take our time and let them explore and also not want to risk cranky overtiredness to set in.

We headed back to the hotel in midafternoon and chilled in the heated pool and hot tub and celebrated a great first day of fun and no falling off mountains!

Then we all crashed...HARD!

first plane ride

For Spring Break we took the boys on our first big family vacation and it started with their very first plane ride!  Considering my first time on an airplane was on my honeymoon, I thought this was a very big deal!

Flying from Atlanta to Vegas, taking to two different shuttle buses to the rental car place, then driving said rental 2 more hours to Utah made for a LONG travel day but man was it worth it for the week that we had hiking, swimming, and memory making!

covington square field trippin'

May is the month of everything!  Baseball, field trips, field days, awards days, end of season, end of school events, and I for one, whole enjoying every minute, am slap wore out!

Logan's preschool took another fun walking fieldtrip to the square but this time around they visited four different locations.

First up was Wild Art where they painted an original piece.  Next was McKibben music where they learned about notes on different instruments.  Then to the Square for a picnic, back to Wild Art for an art talk about different medians, and then last but not least, to Scoops!

Such a fun fun day with these almost Kindergartners!

special olympics parade

Logan's preschool too a walking fieldtrip to the Square to watch and cheer for the Special Olympics parade.

It was hot, steamy hot, but they waved and clapped and brought tears to my eyes with their sweet support of something they don't yet truly understand.

The slogan for the Special Olympics was "Why fit in when you were born to stand out?"

Can I just say Amen!  We are each so beautifully and lovingly put together for a specific purpose to bring glory to God.  Do not confirm to this world, transform, stand out, just the way He specifically designed you to do.

art show

Due to a baseball game, of course, we didn't make it to Logan's Art Day fundraiser, but here are his wonderful works he did with Mrs. Natalie this year.  Each piece represents a different artist they studied.
