1st day of 1st grade

Last Friday was Micah's first day of first grade.  He was up before my alarm went off because he was worried we would be late.  Thankfully he did because I had set my alarm for pm instead of am!  His awesome daddy left early to go pick up doughnuts for his breakfast wish and we all headed out of the house just after 7 am to take him to school.

Micah's teacher this year is Mrs. Hodges and he has Griffin in his class who was a good buddy from his class last year.  He was much more relaxed about starting school this year which made this mama much happier.  There were some tears from me but thankfully I made it almost all the way back to the car before I let them out.  Oh mercy how I love this handsome little man and pray that his time away during the day will be fulfilling, positive, full of fun and learning.

sunday song

We had the last sermon from our year long theme of  being a disciple.  Today we talked about Paul and his decision to follow the Spirit's leading to Jerusalem even though he knew he would probably be arrested.  However through that obedience and hardship, he ended up on house arrest and spent years writing letters to the different churches he has visited, aka half of the New Testament.  He was a daring disciple, one who loved our King and His Kingdom more than his own comfort and desires.  Lord to be a Daring Disciple for you...

Give me one pure and holy passion
Give me one magnificent obsession
Give me one glorious ambition for my life
To know and follow hard after You

Give me one pure and holy passion
Give me on magnificent obsession
Give me one glorious ambition for my life
To know and follow hard after You

To know and follow hard after you
To grow as your disciple in your truth
This world is empty, pale, and poor
Compared to knowing you, my Lord
Lead me on and I will run after you
Lead me on and I will run after you

Give me one pure and holy passion
Give me one magnificent obsession
Give me one glorious ambition for my life
To know and follow hard after you
To know and follow hard after you
To grow as your disciple in the truth
This world is empty, pale, and poor
Compared to knowing you my Lord
Lead me on and I will run after you

Lord to know and follow hard after you
And to grow as your disciple in your truth
This world is empty, pale, and poor
Compared to knowing you my Lord
Lead me on and I will run after you
Lead me on and I will run after you
Lead me on and I will run after you

last day of summer

Last year on the last day of summer I let Micah pick a special outing to do.  This year I wanted to do the same thing but there was a lot going on that day so we just had to squeeze in a special playtime in between errands.

We decided to go to the mall play area and then to the snack kiosk next to it and get a ring sucker.  It's been one of Micah's favorite things to do since he was two.  This was actually what we did on his 2nd birthday as a special treat just because he loved it so much.

There were lots more kids there than usual but the boys had a great time playing and Logan only tried to run away once which is a pretty big deal.  I of course just stared at my boys the whole time close to tears as I saw how big and independent they are becoming.  Oh the curse of parenthood, you want to hold them so close yet you want to teach them how to grow and become the people God created them to be.

reptile wrangler

Wednesday afternoon before Open House we went to our library's last summer program, the Reptile Wrangler.  They had a tarantula, a toad, a gecko, two snakes and an alligator.  There might have been a moment when the whole room screamed when the alligator ran a couple feet and I might have hidden behind my son when the snake was crawling through the guys shirt and up over his head.  That's normal right!?

catching up

This was our last week of summer and there was LOTS of catching up to do from being gone the week before and LOTS of to dos to do to get ready for school.  Every day was JAM PACKED with errands, cleaning, and fun activities.

To name a few....

Micah has been learning how to blow up balloons during Sunday night playtime
while the adults are doing the Truth Project

Micah had a cross bite thing put in behind his top teeth.
Two days we had an unplanned visit back to have a wire pushed back into place.

He has to wear it for six months.  It's job is to center the bite and make space for that pesky ol' tooth to FINALLY come down.

Silas and Evie came over two mornings this week to play while Steph went to physical therapy.  Her summer sitters (Leslie and her MIL) went back to work this week so to the May house they come :)

We've had nothing but drama with the boy's big pool this summer.  First the yard was to wet to clean up and make a space, then after cleaning out and setting up the pool it had three different leaks, now we can't find a replacement :(  We went outside to play and the decided splashing in an inch deep of dirty water would be amazing.  I personally thought it was nasty!

I hosted a swap meet at my house. We had about ten girls show up with all their unwanted stuff and traded out.  I took the remainders to Goodwill.  It was a really fun time!

All the boys in the house had a cold this week.  The biggest boy included!  So I made chicken noodle soup for the first time.  Still not sure why I've never made it before, but good timing to help rejuvenate everyone.

The perks to illness is LOTS of cuddles :)
