ice excavation

This is one of our favorite summer activities and has been on our summer list the last few years.  I'm sure you can find something like it on pinterest, but our idea came from a Curious George episode.

All you have to do is freeze random objects inside water and when it's solid ice you go outside and excavate.  It works better if you put some in fill your container half way up and freeze, then repeat  This time we used spoons, knives, and a water bottle full of warm water plus our hands and the concrete as our tools.

There are many pluses to this activity.  It's free, it cools you off on a hot summer day, it's a good learning experience, it takes a long time and it's fun!
