visit from mimi and papa

A couple weeks ago my parents came to spend the week with us before schools started again.  We all had a great time and took quite a few field trips.  

The boys and I took them to Zoo Atlanta for the day because zoos are awesome and that was one they'd never been to.  Apparently it was really bad when we were little and they felt too bad for the animals to go see it.  Birds are one of my dad's favorite things so Micah and Connor went through the parakeet house and fed them with seed sticks which they had never gotten a chance to do before.

My mom and I snuck away one day to eat at the Blue Willow and do some antiquing.  We both got dressed up, the food was delicious and while the shops weren't the best we'd been to we found an awesome book selection at one.  One of the stores had a bunch of life size dolls in it and the lady who runs it was talking to one of them about their hair.  CREEPY!

On Saturday morning we took them to the Monastery which was totally up my mom's alley.  They recently built on a huge addition with some shops, visitor's center and museum.  Zach and I hadn't had a chance to go there yet so we were excited to finally visit. The boys did great and actually stayed quiet during the historical/day in the life video and the walk through the chapel.  We walked down to the lake to feed the ducks who are known for their bravery in dealing with people.  It didn't both the boys a bit but they freaked me out big time.  

Other events of the week were going to Scoops, breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts, seeing Micah's school, watching the Opening Ceremonies, teaching the Settlers of Catan, daddy mowing the grass, and mama doing the ironing and cleaning my kitchen :)

kindergarten

Our son is clutch.  After an anxiety filled emotional open house Wednesday night I was expecting first day drama today.  However, my little boy strutted in with a smile on his face barely said goodbye and got straight to work.  When the time comes for the real deal apparently it is game on!

We started our morning much earlier than any other EVER.  I woke Micah up and his first words were "is it time!?"  his second were "I'm still a little bit tired."  He fueled up with a fried egg and toast which was amusing because he's never had that for breakfast ever but it was his pick.  After a little driveway photo session we headed out.

I made him give me a hug in the parking lot because I was pretty sure this embarrased of PDA boy wasn't going to give me one inside and I was right.  Zach videotaped his walk from the car to the classroom and I'll probably cry when I watch.  I didn't cry at school and I only teared up a little in the car.  As hard as it is to realize time goes by fast and your baby turns into a big boy before you're ready, I am so excited for this new adventure.  School provides a whole new realm of learning, creativity and friendships and I think he's going to be awesome at it!

last day of summer

Technically today was our last day of summer so this morning I asked Micah what was one thing he wanted to do on his last day of summer vacation.  His answer, BOUNCY PLACE!

Game Time a.k.a the bounch place does not have air conditioning so I knew that it was going to be HOT and it was going to be a short visit.  After rest we headed out armed with LOTS of water and Logan and I spent about an hour watching Micah and Connor hop, climb, jump and slide.  

They also fit in a little practice time for their future Olympics.  Great dismounts if I do say so myself!

embrace the camera: august 2nd

Welcome to embrace the camera paparazzi style.  I am HORRIBLE at taking candid pictures because most of the time I know someone is taking them so I get this weird 'half smile half ridiculous I don't know what to do with my face' look that is just not cute at all.  I like the thought of it though because it allows me to see the real of what is going on in a situation. 

Zach took these two during our visit to the monastery with my parents and while there's nothing amazing about them, they make me smile because they're real :)

 In less than five minutes, sitting on the kitchen floor, getting ready to go ride bikes, Micah learned how to tie his shoes.  It may sound odd but this might be one of my favorite parenting moments to date.  I sat there showing him briefly how to make the 'bunny ears' and watching him mimic it.  There was no frustration on his face when he didn't get it right there was just determination.  The look on his face when he got it for the first time was pure precious joy followed by a smirk as I quickly untied it and asked him to try it one more time just to make sure.  He did it again :)

I am absolutely confident that every time I see him repeat this feat whether it's today, at age 15 on a baseball field, or at 30 when he ties his own son's shoes my heart will smile and I'll remember those moments in our kitchen.  Thank you God for precious times of learning, sharing and remembering.
